Community Over Competition

Getting started with epoxy resin, mica powders and alcohol inks can be intimidating and overwhelming. I know firsthand that this is why some people are reluctant to even give it a try. I watched countless videos and scrolled through other makers' posts for many months before feeling ready to start. Because of incredibly talented creators like the ones I am sitting with below—Kelly Johnson, Annie Morcos, and TK Fareed—I can now call myself a resin artist too. It was their generous knowledge-sharing, advice and support that has helped me and so many others learn the craft of resin art.

The maker, artist, woodworking and crafting community is one that I have found to be incredibly accepting, supportive, uplifting and inclusive. These talented creators are excited to share what they have learned on their social platforms, and not only that, they are eager to help others learn too. I encourage you to follow creators with similar interests as yours on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok. Join the resin art or maker groups on Facebook. Even if you have never mixed part A with part B in your life, join, learn, ask questions, seek advice and get inspired!

JUST CREATE

Whether you have never believed yourself to be creative or you are someone trying to tap back into the creative passion you once had, just start. It does not matter what you create. Exposure to visual art and participation in creative activities creates positive brain changes. Not only can it be incredibly therapeutic, but creative expression is a powerful tool for well-being. If you give yourself the space and freedom to simply create, you will be amazed at what happens next!
